About Stephania

Stephania Serena is best known for her obscure take on the taxonomy of traditional botanical illustration. Rather than employing scientifically accurate depictions of natural elements, most useful to identification, Stephania delves into our individual response evoked in her depiction of imperfect natural elements presented as unknown emotional reflexes, not as specimens. She works primarily with photography a medium known for hyper-clarity which she paradoxically pushes toward the indistinct. Stephania studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and lives and works in San Francisco.
